We’re thrilled to announce that construction and set-up at our third location is finally complete, and we’re ready to welcome you and your dogs to our brand-new space on November 2nd! To prepare you for the big day, we wanted to provide a more detailed look at all that this new location has to offer. From the neighborhood itself to the playrooms to a streamlined drop-off process thanks to dedicated parking, we think you’ll agree District Dogs Shaw was worth the wait. Location, Location, Location
Situated in the Trellis House building on Sherman Avenue, our newest location is convenient to some of Northwest DC’s busiest and most exciting neighborhoods. We’re blocks away from U Street and Howard University, with easy access to main thoroughfares such as Georgia Avenue, Rhode Island Avenue, 7th Street, and Florida Avenue. Pet parents from Pleasant Plains to Bloomingdale and Truxton Circle to Logan Circle will enjoy the convenience of our new location.
Dedicated parking in the Trellis House garage makes every pick-up and drop-off a breeze. Our 8th street entry, in the rear of the building, offers plenty of retail parking, two reserved spots for District Dogs staff and guests, as well as two dedicated 15-minute drop-off spots. A video intercom at this entrance enables pet parents to buzz us upon arrival, alerting our staff to remotely unlock the rear door and meet parents for pick-up or drop-off.
Your Dog’s Favorite Place to Play
With 3000+ square feet of space, our newest location is loaded with amenities your pup is sure to love. Four playrooms offer separate spaces for pups of all sizes and energy levels, with FUNiture play structures to keep them entertained and engaged for hours of play. Protect-All Flooring throughout the play spaces ensures premium underfoot comfort that is soft on joints with superior traction—making sure playtime is safe and fun.
Continuing our commitment to cleanliness and safety, a dedicated water supply with industrial-grade drainage systems in each playroom allows for easy deep cleaning and disinfecting with veterinary-grade cleaning products. Our high-tech HVAC system keeps things clean above the field of play too. Separate zones with individual temperature control and air supply prevent cross-contamination of air between playrooms, grooming areas, private boarding suites, and human offices/common areas. While our play spaces are indoors, your pup will still enjoy a constant supply of fresh air thanks to seven air changes per hour!
Beyond the Playroom
Aside from the playrooms, District Dogs Shaw offers extra private boarding suites for pups who want to relax in solo comfort. Additionally, this location features a private training room and event space. So, whether you plan to take one of our group classes, enroll your dog in a private training program, or host a pet party, we’ve got the perfect place for your needs.
To give your pet the ultimate in pampering, District Dogs Shaw features a full-service luxury dog spa on site. The boutique services offered by our professional groomers will have your pup feeling and looking their best. Whether your dog needs a brand new ‘do or a simple bath and brush, we’ve got you covered.
Finally, our new location boasts a curated selection of retail goods for dogs and dog lovers alike. From food and treats to toys and stylish bandanas, our retail space is the perfect place to get something special for your furry friend.
Getting Ready for Opening Day
Though the doors officially open for business on November 2nd, you can go ahead and set up your account today.
To register for services at District Dogs Shaw:
- Visit https://districtdogs.com/shaw/ and click the “Login/Sign-Up” button in the top right corner of the page.
- Choose “New Customer” and select “Shaw” from the “Home Location” drop-down.
- You will then be prompted to enter your information, provide us with details about your dog, and submit your dog’s required vaccination records.
Note: Existing District Dogs customers do NOT need to create a new account. You will see Shaw as an available location under “Request Services” and will be able to book services at the new location.
Come Celebrate with Us
To celebrate the opening of our newest location, we are hosting a socially distant open house on Sunday, November 1st. We welcome you and your pup to check out the new location, meet and greet our staff, and enjoy a few treats (for humans and dogs!) with us.

So, please note that—in an effort to comply with social distancing best practices and avoid over-crowding—we may ask new visitors to wait outside while others explore the space. Additionally, face coverings will be required to enter the facility.
