We believe in spreading the tail-wagging joy as much as possible during the holidays. This year, we partnered with the AWLA to bring warmth, comfort and cheer to our furry friends in need.
Thanks to you, our inaugural year of Home For The Howl-i-days triumphed. With your help, we were able to raise $1,898 for the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, which District Dogs matched for a grand total of $3,796! These essential funds will go towards supporting the comfort and care of all animals during their stay at the AWLA, in hopes that they will soon find loving homes of their own.Â
Didn’t get a chance to donate last month? Don’t let the holidays being over stop you! Animal shelters across the DC Area, including the AWLA, seek your support year round. Whether you’re able to gift your time as a volunteer or support with an in-kind donation, we encourage you to continue to donate towards the important work being done right here in Alexandria to support our furry friends in need!
In addition to raising funds, we aimed to highlight as many furry faces as possible to help them find their loving homes. Take a peek below to see a just few of the AWLA’s many adoption success stories from the holiday season!

Hey there! My name is Phish Food and I am an extra-large puppy who is bursting with energy and always ready for playtime. I am looking for an active family or person to keep up with me. I am going to require exercise on a daily basis to help me shake off some of my excess puppy energy. I would make a great running or hiking partner and am always ready for an outdoor adventure. I am a pretty smart guy who already knows the cues for sit and down. But because I am in the early stages of training, I am going to require consistent positive reinforcement to make sure I grow up to be the best dog I can be. I can also use some work on my leash manners! I am a friendly dog who loves everyone I meet and have lived with another dog without any problems in my previous home. I am also crate trained. I am a very playful pup who enjoys chasing balls and the occasional game of tug. So if you have an active lifestyle and think you are up to the challenge of raising a high-energy puppy, we may just be a match. I can’t wait to meet my new best friend!

Hey there! My name is Seven and if you are looking for a high spirted, high energy dog with a zest for life, you may have just found him. I am a nine-month-old scruffy guy who currently weighs 50 pounds. But keep in mind I still have a little more growing to do! I am always eager to explore the world around me and love going on walks. And I have been told that I have pretty good leash manners! Because I am barely out of the puppy stage, I am an active dog who is going to need plenty of physical and mental stimulation. I would love to have a place of my own where I can run and play. I am a very playful pup who can get a little jumpy sometimes. But with consistent training and positive reinforcement, I am going to make a great companion for some lucky person. And just so you know, my previous owner reports that I have pretty good house manners. In general, I am a spirited young dog with lots of potential who is sure to become a beloved member of your family. Let’s meet and see how it goes!
