We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you! This year, District Dogs is proud to support Breaking Ground, a remarkable program dedicated to empowering LGBTQIA+ youth of color through the arts, by donating a 5-day daycare package to their annual silent auction fundraiser.
About Breaking Ground Breaking Ground is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, marking a decade of using theatre and performing arts to give voice to the experiences, challenges, and journeys of LGBTQIA+ youth of color in the DC Metro area. Founded by AJ King, this unique program tackles vital issues such as HIV/AIDS, racism, transphobia, mental health, and more, through the powerful medium of musical theatre. The program has been a beacon of creativity and resilience, producing sold-out performances at prestigious venues like Arena Stage, ATLAS Performing Arts Center, Anacostia Arts Center, and Gallaudet University.
In 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Breaking Ground pivoted to create a feature film, which premiered to a sold-out audience at The Wharf. This year, their 2024 production, “Homecoming: Mask Off,” will premiere at The Kennedy Center on September 6th, promising to be an unforgettable celebration of their 10-year milestone.
