We believe in spreading the tail-wagging joy as much as possible during the holidays. This year, we’ve partnered with the AWLA to bring warmth, comfort and cheer to our furry friends in need.
Join us in our mission to raise funds and collect pantry donations to stock the Community Pet Pantry at the AWLA. Even small amounts of food, toys and blankets can make a huge impact on hundreds of lives. As we celebrate the spirit of giving, let’s come together to give each pet a well-stocked Home for the Howl-i-days.Â
Make your donation at the button above, or visit your nearest District Dogs store to select your donation from the giving tree and drop off your goods.Â
Your support is more crucial now than ever for our furry friends in need. The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) is currently over capacity with animals in need of loving homes, making your decision to adopt or foster incredibly impactful. By opening your heart and home, you not only provide a second chance to a deserving pet but also alleviate the strain on the AWLA’s staff and resources.Â
Your decision to adopt or foster could change a life! Explore the profiles below to meet our featured District Dogs of the Week, each one eagerly awaiting the chance to find their home this Howl-i-day.
Hi there! My name is Dash, and I’m aptly named as I’m a dashing brindle boy who is ready to steal your heart. I can be a bit uncertain at first, but give me a little time and space and I’m sure to come around. I am certain to gain confidence with a family ready to provide me with positive new experiences at a comfortable pace. My prior owner reports I have very good house manners, and I am crate trained. I enjoy playtime, a nice game of tug and long walks. I sit nicely on cue, give paw and am ready to learn new things. I’m very treat motivated, and there’s no end to what I can learn! I’m ready to be an affectionate and fun companion for a family with just a little patience and lots of love.

Hi there! My name is Dexter and I am a super chill guy with a beautiful brown brindle coat who suddenly finds himself in the market for a new best friend. I am a really sweet boy who can be quite affectionate. I love getting attention in the form of pets and scratches. I do a really nice sit while patiently waiting for my treats and I take them softly from your hand. I like going on walks and am told that I have really good leash manners — which is very important when you are a big guy like me! My previous owner reports that I have very good house manners and can be left along for several hours at a time without any problems. I have lived with another dog in the past and we got along just fine. And at seven years old, I am at a really good age. I am way past the puppy stage, but still young enough to enjoy outdoor activities with my new buddy. I am also a really good cuddler, which will come in handy during these cold winter months! So if you are looking for a new best like I am, give me a try. Because, after all, life is better with a friend by your side!

Hey there! My name is Phish Food and I am an extra-large puppy who is bursting with energy and always ready for playtime. I am looking for an active family or person to keep up with me. I am going to require exercise on a daily basis to help me shake off some of my excess puppy energy. I would make a great running or hiking partner and am always ready for an outdoor adventure. I am a pretty smart guy who already knows the cues for sit and down. But because I am in the early stages of training, I am going to require consistent positive reinforcement to make sure I grow up to be the best dog I can be. I can also use some work on my leash manners! I am a friendly dog who loves everyone I meet and have lived with another dog without any problems in my previous home. I am also crate trained. I am a very playful pup who enjoys chasing balls and the occasional game of tug. So if you have an active lifestyle and think you are up to the challenge of raising a high-energy puppy, we may just be a match. I can’t wait to meet my new best friend!

Hey there! My name is Seven and if you are looking for a high spirted, high energy dog with a zest for life, you may have just found him. I am a nine-month-old scruffy guy who currently weighs 50 pounds. But keep in mind I still have a little more growing to do! I am always eager to explore the world around me and love going on walks. And I have been told that I have pretty good leash manners! Because I am barely out of the puppy stage, I am an active dog who is going to need plenty of physical and mental stimulation. I would love to have a place of my own where I can run and play. I am a very playful pup who can get a little jumpy sometimes. But with consistent training and positive reinforcement, I am going to make a great companion for some lucky person. And just so you know, my previous owner reports that I have pretty good house manners. In general, I am a spirited young dog with lots of potential who is sure to become a beloved member of your family. Let’s meet and see how it goes!
