The Difference

Our story

District Dogs began as a dog walking business in 2014, with owner Jacob Hensley as the sole employee. District Dogs gained a reputation as the go-to pet care company for warm, thoughtful, and outstanding service. With the assistance of Jacob’s broker Steve Gaudio, in the fall of 2016, District Dogs opened a storefront in DC’s Park View neighborhood, fulfilling Jacob’s vision of building a full-service pet care company.

The opening of our flagship second location in Southeast DC’s Navy Yard neighborhood paved the way for future growth, located in a class A residential building District Dogs developed proprietary sound and odor proofing to meet consumers where they live. We’ve added two more locations in DC, two in Virginia with dedicated training centers (for dogs and franchisees). District Dogs won the highly selective process to be the first retail lease signed as a part of Amazon’s HQ2 in Arlington Virginia.

District Dogs is committed to maintaining the highest level of quality as we expand our success in the pet care industry. That’s why we’ve chosen to franchise, partnering with Steve Gaudio, a longtime broker and advisor, to bring our services to a wider audience. How it Works

District Dogs makes franchising easy! The following steps outline the franchise process and how YOU can become part of the District Dogs Crew today!

Requirements

This isn’t a side hustle. We’re looking for owners who are prepared to put the apron on. If you aren’t ready to be in your area and in your store for an extended amount of time – this might not be for you.

Step 1

Introduction to District Dogs

An overview of the District Dogs Franchise Opportunity including expectations, available locations, costs & items, and reception of the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD). You can then review the FDD and take the steps to prepare for the interview in Phase 2. This is also when you will select your territory.

Step 2

Interview

This interview is an opportunity for us to get to know you better and make sure we are both a great fit for each other, in addition to better understanding your operation plan.

Step 3

Proposing a location

You’ll submit a location within your selected territory for approval. We’re able to assist in this process with our network of national retail brokers.

Step 4

Completing the purchase

After your location is approved, you’ll then sign the Franchise Agreement and pay the franchise fee and other initial fees.

Step 5

Onboarding

All necessary training and orientation then takes place to prepare you for opening your District Dogs. You will receive all of the support you need to ensure that when your doors open, you are fully prepared to operate your store in the District Dog’s way.

Step 6

Construction

We begin physical construction and build out of your District Dogs location including all necessary permits.

Step 7

Grand Opening

Finally, your Grand Opening day arrives! Your District Dogs will now be fully operational and open to dogs everywhere!
